True Blood

Filed under: Media Reviews — admin @ 9:52 pm

Orgy infested sex brigades aside, this show has got me hooked! I just finished Season 2 of True Blood after only starting Season 1 less that a Month ago. It has its corny (“…Sook-eh”). It has its evils. It has just about what every vampire fandom should (like coffins: buffy style). Just about every character you hate just a little but love all the same, or even more. It has a great dynamic between all the different story lines which keeps each hour long episode moving full speed ahead. I just love it, but for some reason I feel dirty because I do…just so much sex!

Now onto season 3!

“Nobody should be allowed to look that good.” -Mother, in reference to Zac Efron (her new found celebcrush)

When I first saw this trailer it caught my attention because it showed a clip of Zac Efron crying or freaking out or something, but either way, he showed some minuscule bit of talent for the first time that I had scene. I went with my mom to see it as a chicky tear jerker-esque movie but I only got teary in a couple scenes. The movie was reasonably predictable, but the big climax still seemed to shock me which made the trip to the much to expensive theater worth it. Over all it was enjoyable but nothing that really gets your brain pistons pumping (I still need to see Inception for that kinda thing).

This movie was extremely heavy. Although the story was about Precious’ horrible life, it was a great movie that I would highly recommend. I wish I was some sort of sociologist with an intelligent response to this movie, but all I can say as a reasonably ignorant (which I think many of us are) viewer, is that it was absolutely heart wrenching and my face was covered in tears.

It’s simply a must see. It is eye opening and heart wrenching.

Dear John

Filed under: Media Reviews — admin @ 11:32 am

Most girls went to see Dear John because they were like OMGZ CHANNING TATUM IZ SO HAWT!!

For those who actually cracked a book (like myself), and liked the song Set Fire to the Third Bar BEFORE they saw the Dear John trailer (like myself), the movie was a huge let down.

Now, like most book to movie interpretations, (Harry Potter, the Lovely Bones, etc) I try very hard to take the movie for its own entity and therefore tend to not be very critical and still enjoy them. As for  Dear John, they changed character relationships (from brothers to father/son…WEIRD) and pivotal character/relationship development points. It made it much harder to enjoy.

I of course, did cry due John and his fathers relationship. They portrayed that relationship well, thank goodness. What makes that part of the book/movie so interesting was that you (and John) discover that the father has a form of autism. I believe the book may have specified it as Aspergers Syndrome. But nonetheless, they hit that nail on the head in my opinion. Actor Richard Jenkins plays John’s father and his acting was fantastic.

There was only one moment of bad acting. Amanda Seyfried,  please learn how to react better when you hear the news that someone has died. Thanks.

And that is my Dear John recap: Disappointing at best!
